Hanoi – narrow streets

Some streets are quite narrow in Hanoi. In the old quarter, they are just wide enough for one adult to walk through, less than 1m in width. In our neighborhood, we found a nice shortcut between Kim Mã Thương street and Dội Cấn street; it’s about 2m wide, but in some parts more narrow; there is surprisingly much motorbike, electro-bike, and bicycle traffic. When we asked a person, whether it is possible to cross, the lady said “yes, it’s wiggly, make three right turns, then one left”, I wouldn’t know how to explain it better either, see map below.

I was surprised to see that Hanoi people enjoy quite large living spaces; not much smaller than in the U.S., for example, but still, they live quite densely. I came across this figure below:
