Cultural transition

Here are a few things that made me laugh or scratch my head:
1) apparently gas for the stove comes from a gas tank much like the one for the BBQ grill. The one that was in the house was completely empty so we got a new one. The next day, the kitchen sink drain was stopped up. I tried to figure it out but had to call the apartment guy for help. He came and moved the gas tank aside to get a better look and lo and behold, the sink drained immediately. So gas tanks and flexible drain pipes are new to me.

2) we forgot we need to bring toilet paper every we go. The toilets normally don’t have paper. Fine if you’re a boy, not so good if you’re girl. Love those baby wipes!

3) Checking in your purse and book bags at the grocery stores (to minimize shop lifting). I haven’t done that in a while.

4) I asked the housekeeping to wash some of my delicate articles of clothing in cold so it won’t shrink. She responded, “so you want to wash it normally?” I said no, in cold please. And she repeated, “normal then.” duh! Normal is cold washing. Hot water uses electricity which costs a lot more money.

5) we have electrical switches inside the apartment to turn on and off the hot water. And it sure gets hot! But if you want a shower immediately, it’ll have to be a cold one. You have to wait a few minutes for the water to get heated.
