Bus in Hanoi

So, I boarded the bus at the terminal waiting for the driver. Getting on early, I captured a seat. However, I soon realized my strategy was poor, as there is an – if you are older – you have seating preference, and quickly older folks got on the bus, so that the seat closest to the door gets replaced with an older person. Since I was not seating far in the back, it didn’t take long until I gave away my seat to an older lady.

Then, the driver jumped on the bus. All of a sudden all the younger people left the bus – about 15 of them. I thought they must have boarded the wrong bus, as there are several buses with the same number that take a different routes. As the bus started moving without the engine, and I realized all the teenagers were pushing the bus, rolling down the busy street; after a while, the driver jump-started the bus, the kids – laughing and screaming – jumped on the slow-moving bus and the bus was jam-full again.
